Yesss! It’s so hard when the general societal narrative is “focus and be specific and keep on doing the thing forever”. I can’t help but think that this substack journey / project has been such a great combination of dedication (I kinda prefer that word to commitment) that develops self-trust, and a wide creative net of possibility because of the variety of ways you can approach it and topics you can explore.
I love that perspective! I’m always wondering as a MG how I’m supposed to balance focus/dedication while still honoring my multifaceted nature?
P.S. it’s crazy how much value I still find from our session from so long ago, and how much I still think about it! You and human design have been such an amazing influence on my journey🤍
P.P.S. We need to catch up soon because I want to hear about what’s happening in your world!!
I think you’re doing a wonderful job with that on substack! I’ve recently found myself getting caught up in the “well I can’t action any of these possibly unrelated creative endeavours unless it all makes sense within a bigger vision” (and I don’t have the bigger vision yet haha) — maybe you feel that pressure to make sense of things in advance too.
I also believe that thinking in broader terms can be helpful, like, I’m dedicated to continuous creative self expression, and open to that flowing into various mediums or topics. OR a slightly smaller container of, “I’m dedicated to creative expression through a writing practice” and allowing the topics and format of your writing to be varied.
It makes me so happy to hear how the value of our HD sessions continues on!
Oh! And sometimes, simply new iterations on things you’ve already done can be a great way to have focus while exploring different angles, approaches, mediums etc
Ouch! This really resonated with me. Last year, I left my job - and my career - in marketing, and now I’m back working in hospitality. I’m not sure what’s next, but as a multi-passionate person, there are so many things I’d love to explore. For now, I’m giving myself time to figure it out, but I’m also excited about the prospect of pivoting and diving into another facet of my passions.
This really resonates with me! Your insight “the only through line needed to connect the dots of your work, projects, hobbies, and lifestyle is you” feels liberating! Unlike manifesting generator energy, I work best in focused bursts with lots of rest in between as a Mental Projector. When I try to keep up with a steadier, more traditional 9-5 pace, I burn out. I’ve also spent a lot of time stuck in my head which always leads to feelings of not being able to figure it out. I need to change that narrative as I don't want to be boxed in by one thing anyways!!
Your post has reminded me of how important it is to stay grounded in physical awareness rather than getting lost in unhelpful thought patterns. It's also made me want to revisit my own Human Design and lean into rhythms that actually support me, rather than pushing against them. Thank you for your beautiful words, as always 🤍
I'm brainstorming a future post all about leveraging Human Design for our careers/creativity. I'm going to interview my friend Bria who is the BEST! So if you have any questions about your design, let me know so I can include it in the post:)
This was beautiful, thank you for sharing with us! I have very much felt the same at various points in my life - wanting to do so many things that sometimes I feel stuck. Similarly, Substack has been one thing I have been able to consistently do for almost 1.5 years and it's been so rewarding in so many ways.
Thanks so much for reading Ofelia! Agreed…Substack is such an amazing creative playground and exploratory outlet! Can’t wait to see where it will lead both of us🤍
As always, I connect so much with your words. I recently found the Substack “The Career Archetypes” and he talks about multifaceted people like Leonardo da Vinci, how he would’ve never achieve what he did, had he stayed in one lane. However, from my personal experience, it can feel like your creative head is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I love the idea of one-off projects, there’s something about content creation being called “the infinite game” thats paralyzing. Only recently I keep telling myself that this will last for however it needs to last, and thats ok! Be proud to have done it :)
Thanks so much for reading and sharing as always Ana!! I’ll have to check out that Substack. From the outside, you would’ve imagined Leonardo da Vinci to be extremely singular in his focus/mastery. Interesting! Agreed on the infinite content game. I have noticed I work SO much better when I have a specific goal/endpoint in mind, which is why I struggle in the social media/content world
Maddy, what you're talking about here is the premise of the book 'I Could Do Anything If Only I Knew What It Was'. Also, what you describe about focus and passion projects sounds a lot like ADHD, so don't rule that out!
I will have to check out that book! And interesting point on the ADHD! Honestly, I feel like my focus has gone straight down the drain after having my little ones🤪
This resonated *so much*, as you probably could've guessed since we have been cut from the same cloth. I actually have a Substack in the works that hits on some similar themes. I think I know who you're referring to about the jams and I had the same thought! I'm also considering a one-off project as my next thing so reading this was so validating. Thank you!
Haha we seriously do have so many similarities🤪 Can’t wait to see your Substack and hear more about your one off project! I know it’s going to be great✨

I love that you’re giving yourself the time and space to figure out your next step!!❤️ Can’t wait to see what you decide to pursue next!

That's also completely possible! 🤣
Its mom brain not Adhd 😂, I can relate to that
We all think that until we're diagnosed! 🤷🏼♀️

This resonated with me so much - I needed to hear this! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for reading Yelena! So glad to hear it resonated with you 🤍
Thank you for sharing, Maddy! I am also a manifesting generator and relate so much!
Thanks for reading Lacey! So happy you could relate as a fellow MG🤍
Thank you for sharing this, it has resonated so much with me and the moment I'm going through!
Thanks so much for reading Laura! Happy to hear it resonated with your journey🤍
