With summer on the horizon, I’ve been daydreaming about French escapes, from countryside retreats to coastal havens.
While France is full of charming places to stay, especially guesthouses and maisons d’hôtes, this collection is all about hotels—those that truly capture the spirit of summer.
Though most of our summer will be spent settling into our new apartment in Paris, my mind is already checked into one of these dreamy stays:
HÔTEL DU COUVENT: I’ve long been captivated by the rich history of this place and how beautifully it’s been woven into the brand’s identity. From the gardens overlooking the sea to the Roman baths, and my favorite detail: a resident herbalist who crafts personalized remedies using herbs from the garden—it’s truly something special.
HÔTEL LA PONCHE: A design-lover’s dream in Saint-Tropez, this hotel’s rooms, suites, and apartments offer sweeping Mediterranean views. Indulge in true luxury with a La Mer exclusive facial or begin your morning with a yoga class overlooking the sea. Personally, I wouldn’t miss either.
LES BASSANS: Opening next month following an extensive renovation by the Fontenille Collection, Les Bassans is an eco-conscious hotel celebrating local history and craftsmanship. As much as I’m drawn to thoughtful design, what truly stands out to me is a strong sense of place—and in the storied region of Brittany, it’s inspiring to see how this property honors both its environment and heritage.
LES SOURCES DE CAUDALIE: For those in search of a quintessentially French escape, Les Sources de Caudalie—a five-star palace nestled among the vineyards of Bordeaux—seamlessly blends refined design with world-class gastronomy, including a two Michelin-starred restaurant. After experiencing their sister property, Les Sources de Cheverny, I’m all the more eager to plan a visit.
LILOU HÔTEL: I first spotted this hotel several months ago when we were scheming a potential trip down south. I was initially captured by the simple elegance of the property, then pleasantly surprised by the reasonable rates. Plus, Hyères is making its way to the top of my France to-do list, as a welcomed, more quaint escape to the typical Côte d’Azur destinations.
LE PROVENÇAL: Le Provençal—a storied, family-owned seafront property—will re-open this summer after extensive renovations. While details and imagery have yet to be released, I have a feeling this is one everyone will be talking about!
LA MISSION YEU: If you’re looking for an under-the-radar coastal spot in France, Île d’yeu is an island located off the western coast of France (and apparently reachable by ferry or helicopter.) Blending playful yet refined design, with relaxed experiences like dips in the pool and bicycle rides around the village, La Mission makes for the perfect backdrop for slow paced getaway.
CAPELONGUE: I’ve long admired the Beaumier group, ever since our stays at their two charming Lourmarin properties—Le Moulin and Le Galinier. Located nearby in the picturesque village of Bonnieux, Capelongue offers a more elevated Provençal experience, complete with a Michelin-starred restaurant and spa treatments by Biologique Recherche.
LES ROCHES ROUGES: Another Beaumier property that has been on my wishlist for years—now even more so after its recent ‘rebirth’ in collaboration with ASL Architects. While the stunning seawater pool blending effortlessly with the Mediterranean first captured my attention, their latest updates have me eager to discover everything beyond the pool.
HÔTEL CRILLON LE BRAVE: This hotel is quintessentially Provençal—a combination of storied stone houses that make up the property, complete with views of the Mont Ventoux. Swim laps in their picturesque pool overlooking the beauty of the Luberon, or dine on the terrace at their restaurant—La Table de Ventoux—paying homage to the local and seasonal produce.
If you had to choose just one, which hotel would you book a stay at? Do you have any inspiring summer plans booked? I’d love to hear!
